The Historical Development of the German-Turkish Community

German-Turkish Month 2019 is an event series taking place at the ICD House Berlin that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture. All events will take place in German and are free for the general public to attend. No registration is required.

The opening event will focus on the history and development of the German-Turkish Community. As we reach the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, and approaching fifty years since the first Turkish guest workers arrived, it is important to look back at the growth and changing shape of the German-Turkish Community over the past five decades. The event will then move to consider the challenges that lie ahead for the Community. The program will include welcome speeches, a panel discussion showcasing a range of different perspectives, a musical reception, and will include traditional Turkish cuisine.

The evening will be brought to a close by a live concert from the band Orientation, who fuse soulful club grooves with arabesque melodies.

Education, Immigration and new Career Paths: An Information Event for School Children in Berlin

German-Turkish Month 2019 is an event series taking that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture.

“Education, Immigration, and new Career Paths” is an information event for Berlin students attending the Otto-Hahn-Oberschule in Neukölln and the Bildungswerk Kreuzberg. Hosted by the ICD House, the event aims to inform the pupils of the opportunities open to them here in Germany. German diplomats and pedagogic experts will offer perspectives on careers in international relations and provide advice on education and the job market of the future. The event will also include a presentation on the work of the Foreign Office and the Ernst Reuter Initiative, and provide opportunities for the pupils to ask questions and raise issues they feel are important. 

Cultural Contributions of the German-Turkish Community

German-Turkish Month 2019 is an event series taking place at the ICD House Berlin that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture. All events will take place in German and are free for the general public to attend. No registration is required.

“Cultural Contributions of the German-Turkish Community” will look at the depth and breadth of the cultural influence of the German-Turkish community in German society today. The event will allow the public to hear a range of perspectives on German-Turkish culture from artists and Community representatives. The program for the evening will begin with a literary reading, followed by a panel discussion and party. Traditional Turkish cuisine will be available throughout the evening.

Tipping the Scales?
Political Parties and the German-Turkish Community in Election Year 2020

German-Turkish Month 2019 is an event series taking place at the ICD House Berlin that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture. All events will take place in German and are free for the general public to attend. No registration is required.

“Tipping the Scales? Political parties and the German Turkish Community in Election Year2019” will look at the positions of Germany’s major political parties on issues affecting the German-Turkish Community, such as citizenship and education policy, as well as the challenges caused by the economic crisis. Party representatives and representatives from the public sector and civil society will debate the merits of their agendas, and the audience will have the opportunity to raise important issues. The program will include a panel discussion followed by a musical reception, and traditional Turkish cuisine will be available throughout the evening.

Overcoming Barriers in a Diverse Society: Germany’s Next Generation

German-Turkish Month 2019 is an event series taking place in the ICD House Berlin that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture. All events will take place in German and are free for the general public to attend. No registration is required.

“Overcoming barriers in a Diverse Society” will focus on the challenges ahead for the German-Turkish Community, with a particular emphasis on the younger generation. The program will include a youth workshop and break dance performance, a panel discussion, a live concert, and a music after party. Traditional Turkish food will be available throughout the evening.
